This semester has been different. I am wrapping up my last pair of classes at the Academy of Art University, and getting ready to transfer into the Photo MFA program at Georgia State University in the Fall. There are a lot of reason’s for the switch: access to facilities and equipment, connections to the Atlanta fine arts community, a huge tuition waiver, a graduate teaching assistantship, and a smaller more exclusive graduate program. I’m excited for the change but that doesn’t mean I’m slacking off. I want to finish up my last classes at AAU with the same level of effort and care that I started them.
The Path of the Journeyman, is an exploration of tarot symbology and self-portraiture. The goal of each image is to create a self-portrait that can embody a specific archetype. The first image, Hunter’s Moon, is more endemic of how the series will take shape, while The Hermit and The King of Cups show a bit of the early development of the concept. I may be printing some as actual cards to be sold as a workable deck.
